Product Sustainability requires that we integrate form and function with social, economic and environmental factors. Design for Sustainability and EcoDesign represent important areas of applied research for WSP Digital. Our focus is on how to make EcoDesign decision-making a more accessible and user-friendly design process. We review preliminary design concepts as well as provide simplified product-related environmental impact scans. Development and/or review of environmentally-oriented project briefs is another value-adding service. We also cooperate with the Centre for Design at RMIT University in the ongoing development of EcoDesign strategies and tools, including the Greenfly Rapid Assessment Tool. |
Connecting the management of product life cycles with innovation and corporate foresight underpins successful Product Stewardship strategies. Managing manufactured goods from cradle to grave is becoming a major imperative across product categories and waste streams. Concepts such as Product Stewardship, Shared Product Responsibility and Extended Producer Responsibility are surfacing in many areas of Australian business and government, yet the strategies and advice available to companies are limited. WSP Environmental understands the benefits of managing product life cycles and has the ability to create real-world strategies that are environmentally sensible and economically prudent. Our applied research consulting activities on end-of-life electronics and related programs are unmatched in Australia. The diversity of environmentally improved products and materials entering the market place is expanding. At the same time, demand for such products is increasing, as is the rigour by which they are evaluated. From a practical perspective, there is a need to support the information needs of architects, interior designers, facility managers, developers, product designers, engineers and purchasing officers. WSP can provide rapid sourcing and review aimed at selecting the most environmentally advanced products. Collaboration and cooperation are vital prerequisites in addressing
complex environmental challenges. WSP Digital has established several
